Join one of our certified guides in Kananaskis Village for a fascinating journey into the past. Explore the tiny town of Kovach, Kananaskis’ very own ghost town. Once home to coal mine workers and their families, this tiny town holds stories waiting to be uncovered.
Your adventure begins with a short shuttle ride to the trailhead, where traces of the old mining camp still remain. From there, follow the historic Coal Mine Trail — once used by horses hauling coal — to a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the mine scar etched into the landscape. Along the way, imagine life in the early 1900s and what it felt like to return home to Kovach after a long day’s work in the mines.
